What Are IFTA Quarterly Filing Requirements?
IFTA requires interstate carriers to submit quarterly fuel tax returns to their base jurisdiction. These reports calculate fuel taxes owed or credited based on miles traveled and fuel purchased in each state or province.
Even if no miles were driven during a quarter, a zero-mile (no activity) IFTA return is still required.
IFTA Filing Due Dates
IFTA returns must be filed every quarter by the following deadlines:
o 1st Quarter (Jan–Mar): April 30
o 2nd Quarter (Apr–Jun): July 31
o 3rd Quarter (Jul–Sep): October 31
o 4th Quarter (Oct–Dec): January 31
Missing a deadline can result in penalties, interest, or suspension of your IFTA license.
